maybe it is just me, bbut that looks like a normal BP to me. I think I need a better pic to tell.this is a pic of my normal and it looks very similar colorwise.

Well,I can't say much about the pic,but in reality he's not a "normal"ball python!I know there's a lot of ball's being offered for sale as something "special" to make a buck, but I'm not one of those people.(he's not for sale for one thing!)The only colors he has are black and grey, with a solid white belly, and gold eyes. The little pattern he has looks blurry, and in sunlight he's irredescent like a rainbow boa.
I got him from Kevin at NERD,he's conviced that this snake is genetic. So far I've gotten 5 babies from him(03),all five were identical in pattern, with white bellies and gold eyes.Of course, only line breeding can confirm his genetics, but so far it look's promising! I'll try to take a better picture of him,he just look's a lot better in person.
Anyway,that's enough ranting for now,R

Here's a better pic of him.

the picture just makes it look normal

jyohe Mar 09, 2004 04:31 PM

first....let me say..I am not personally going to bust on you and you alone here....

but..

I have alot of balls that get this dark or darker when they are going to shed....are in a mood....or during the right time of year.........

I have them get dark......light.....really light.......

I have one that sheds out and her back half is yellow......really od and yellow......

.....they are able to change colors...

do not get ripped off by people selling a "morph" IMG..that isn't......

$15 balls are that dark........

yep.....

JY

have fun

dbreptiles Mar 09, 2004 04:35 PM

i wasnt really sure whether mine was hypermel but comparitivly its a lot darker

chainsaw Mar 09, 2004 06:00 PM

to Dbreptiles:thanks again for the pic, mine is as dark as yours,I'm just not that good at taking pictures!lol! To everyone else:I was just trying to share pics of my unusual ball python, but apparently everyone knows more than the owner of NERD,DESPITE THE FACT THAT KEVIN WAS THE FIRST TO PRODUCE MOST OF THE BALL PYTHON MORPHS OUT THERE!!I guess he wouldn't know the difference between a normal or an unusual ball python?
Well,I guess I'll know better than to share my excitement over my animals next time! Thanks

jyohe Mar 09, 2004 06:25 PM

well....put down the hanky.....

I don't know what all else was said...

and yes.Kev was the first to make up odd names for normal balls and get alot of money for $3 balls....

he made alot at it.....

and he has the widest variety of morphs ,,yes....

hypermels are ugly balls...period....

they are good for only one thing....to make an albino with all that white.....that's it....

and yes...they are just normal ugly balls that have normal ugly babies.......

you like...you like......I don't .....don't matter...

anyways...as I said first time.to alot of people with these overpaid ugly balls..they paid 300$ for them more or less.....and they got ripped royally.......

yep.....

anyways........

.........when someone gets a real melanistic ball....it will be kewl...and it will be black.....period.......

having fun?.....

so...

just wanted to let people also know...they do change colors throughout the year......

later...done...JY

Everyone has their own opinion on what looks good. I personally like the darker coloration (as a nice contrast from what a lot of people breed for), and there are some proven morphs that don't appeal as much to me. For example, I am not much for the look of axanthic snakes, except maybe as hatchlings. To each his/her own, right?

You never experience life until you have kids, then you realize what you should have done rather then what you did do

Nice looking baby! I love the darker BPs, and NERD has some nice ones. I just went up there for a visit last weekend. Sweet!
