Fake plants?

brett Mar 09, 2004 05:43 PM

Just wondering what types of fake plants people are using in their cages/tanks where are you buying them? My question mostly relates to whether anyone has tried any of the cheap fake plants from a walmart, etc., or whether everyone buys the overpriced ones at pet stores. I tried the ones from walmart before and had a snake die...though it was never concluded that the two were related. As tempted as I am to try it again, just thought that I would inquire first. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I use the fake ones from the petstore - you know with the suction cups. No problems - but I make sure my guys aren't too small to get tangled in them.

So what happened that you believe it may have caused a death?

I actualy go even cheaper, and buy the vines and things at the dollar store I do usually run them through the dishwasher once before I put them in the tanks. I doubt that's needed, but since I get them for 25-50 cents a piece, I figure it's not a bad idea

I buy the ones at pet stores. I figure if it says it's safe on the package it must be safe. Seems to me the ones in the floral sections at Walmart, etc, could have something on them that could harm pets. The ones in the pet stores are kind of shiney and the others are a bit dull so who knows for sure...

Its been my experience that just about anything bought from a pet store, especially concerning setups, can be found for a fraction of the price elsewear. And often of better quality for that matter. I know many people who keep various fake plants in there aquariums with out problems... I'd excercise common sense when buying things, and avoid things that the snake could become tangled or trapped in though...
