Buy a couple thousand, and breed them, never have to buy any again, in fact, you will probably have too many and be forced to get more animals to feed the mealworms off too ;p
It depends on the appetite of your leo. I would say 1000 med/large ones. But you would have to refrigerate them, because they would pupate... and you may not want a mealworm breeding project. You would have to keep some 'awake' so you can gutload them.
However, you may want an answer from someone with a bit more knowledge/experiance. I buy for my geckos when I need to, not in 6 month increments. Also, alot will die in that period.
Its subjective in the sense that every gecko has different eating habits etc. But I would try to get a second opinion on this one.
