How often do mature females drop a clutch?

John D. Mar 09, 2004 08:14 PM

I recieved a beautiful yearling female from Ron Tremper on Feb. 18th, and put her with the male he sent at the same time. The next day she laid 2 perfect eggs. He says they are her first and should be fertile even if they were only together one night. Anyway, I checked the box today because it has been a bit hot in the room and there were 2 more eggs, smaller than the first ones but still chalky and firm. It has only been 19 days. I had heard about 4 weeks between clutches. All the books I have are silent on the subject. What is normal?

Most of mine lay clutches between 2 and 3 weeks apart.
But if she laid eggs the day after you put her with the male I would assume she already was gravid before you put her with the male, since it typiclly takes 3-4 weeks after breeding that they lay there first clutch.
