Leopard Gecko Hemipenis

dipdude Mar 09, 2004 08:19 PM

What appears to be my leopard gecko's copulatory organ has been protruding from its cloaca for a week. I put it through a bath of hydrogen peroxide, sloughed off some scabbing, and gave a go at poking it back in, but it didn't take.

Has anyone seen this problem before? What has worked?
Can a lizard live with half a Johnson?

I'm actually serious.

Yeah, you'll have to take him to a vet, at this point. If anti-inflamatories and manipulation can't put it back, or it's too damaged, it will have to be amputated.

I agree... prolapses can be quite serious (more so in females I think)... but you need to get the gecko to a vet for treatment- the cause of the prolapse may also need to be investigated too... The prolapsed hemipene will likely need to be amputated..

Hope everything goes well,
Best wishes,
Pauline
