Crooked Tail

DragonsTale Mar 09, 2004 10:31 PM

I have seen many pictures of bearded dragons, but none have a tail like my 2 year old female. Her tail is very bumpy, feels like it has been broken or something, it also does not usually lay straight like most I've seen. There are 2 or 3 bumps and then indentations starting at the base of the tail. This was my boyfriend's dragon and I don't think she got proper care or nutrition in the first few years. I was wondering if this could be a genetic defect or a product of neglect. She also has a bump on her jawline, I was thinking she may have a disease? Any opinion is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Most likely it is a product of metabolic bone disease. If you now have your dragon on a proper diet and have adequate lighting/supplementation it should not give him anymore trouble. Here's some reading for you:

Agreed.... sounds like it was caused by poor husbandry and she may have developed MBD.

Just make sure you do right by her from now on and she should be able to live a nice long, happy life.
