Finicky feeder

scales Mar 09, 2004 10:44 PM

I have a male anery a, he's almost 3 years old, and a couple inches under 3 feet in length. Lives in a 30 gallon long with a fox snake, they have lots of hides (i mean LOTS), a big water bowl, proper temp gradients throughout the cage. Wonderful snake, but a picky eater, and skinny. Not emaciated by any means though. When I generaly place him in a seperate, smaller feeding cage where he doesn't feel like he's being watched while he eats. That helps, but he likes to go several weeks before feeding. I try to chain feed him an extra mouse when i can, but doesn't always work, and once in awhile he'll regurge from it. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Is this normal for a young corn to be a little slender? Thanks for any advice!

Seperate your snakes.2 snakes in the same cage causes stress. Some snakes can handle it some cant, and it doesnt matter how many hides you have....Paul

I have had this animal for several years, and only recently has he been housed with other animals. He has always been finicky, with a little bit of an attitude. (but yet, my favorite amongst my herps) The snake he lives with is an 03 baby, so i doubt he is intimidated by that... Granted, i understand a lot of snakes can't handle community housing, i doubt thats the issue... he has done this for nearly 3 YEARS and has lived with the hatchling (who eats like a pig) for 3 MONTHS. any other ideas on getting more food into him? supplements perhaps? I generally only supplement my lizards, but what do you guys think?? and if anyone has any corns around this age, how big and thick are yours??

Well you could try seperating them.Putting a nonfeeding aggitated corn with another corn sure as hell cant be smart move on your part. But you know it all.Good Luck...TTFN...Paul.

>>Why ask if you are not going to listen to the advise you are given.
It's bad enough that you know you are having problems and still refuse to separate your snakes but to have two different species together, knowing you have a problem, is even worse.
Unless you are willing to separate those two snakes you are wasting your time and ours.
