Egyptian Sand Skinks????

pinky69 Mar 10, 2004 12:48 AM

A friend of mine was recently given a trio of skinks that were previously kept in very poor conditions. She was told by the girl that had them that they were Egyptian Sand Skinks? Has anyone heard of these? She can't find anything about them anywhere, and she's not sure what sort of environment they should be in. They look more like a forest species, and looove greens. Anyone??????

Egyptian sand skink is a common name for Scincus scincus, also known as a 'sand fish'. This is primarily an insect eater. They typically are kept in desert type enclosures- they need a substrate they can burrow/hide in.
If your trio loves greens and ignores insects- you probably don't have sand fish! You may not even have a skink at all- most of the small skinks are insect eaters.
Try a google search for Scincus scincus, sand fish, sandfish as well as egyptian skink. Compare photos and try to ID your animals. Also post a photo here, and you will likely get your ID and links to a care sheet.
