Zaocys carinatus

nechushtan Mar 10, 2004 02:54 AM

Does anyone here have any pics or info on this species? If so I'd love to see it (google searches give very little info) Also does anyone here breed them?

This isn't a new name for the Chinese King ratsnake is it? Because if it is I'm going down to the international naming convention and kicking some shins.

That would be very cool... How is their temperment and do you breed them? Also, I note some wonderful animals on your list... Do you happen to want to part with any of your E. Longissima?

No worries The Zaocys Carinatus (Formerly Ptyas Carinatus) is the Keeled Rat Snake. Supposidly it is one of the meanest and largest Rat snakes in the world but the only pics I've found are on BGF's site and I'd like to see more.

This is calm snake, our specimens dont bite. This is not my group and i dont know exactly, how is present situation with this species. But we breed it periodically, this i know exactly. I try post it foto tomorrow.

I do not clearly understand your question about E. longissima, i'm sorry.

Sorry I wasn't clear on the "Part with" piece... I meant would you be interested in selling a male E. Longissima (or E. Quatrolineata for that matter)? I'm guessing you're European so it's a big shipping issue but I've been wanting an E. Longissima for awhile now.

WHEW! I'm not sure I could ever look at my E. carinata the same way again with a name like that. I'm still getting over Pantherophis. Anyway, Pytas is another one I can't say I've seen for sale in the states. The stinking goddesses are almost as big and probably could be equally mean if you asked them nicely, though.

E. carinata is absolutely different species. If you want know exact taxonomical status of Z. carinatus you must visit www.reptile-database.com.

Ok, i understand about my longissima. I fear that i can't help you because i'm not european, but russian and it is impossible for me - send animals is other country. Sorry, i can help only by advice about it's ecology or reproductive biology.

About E. quatourlineata - i have several specimen with orange background color.

We receive our specimen in 2001 from the wild. So i bont know how old is it.

Our Zaocys length is near 3 m, this is very tame animals (at least they dont bite us).

I've been looking for them too, along with Ptyas korros for as many as 5 years now. I've come across P. korros once, but they all got sold to cobra owners as food before I was able to snag a few. But that was the last time I've ever seen them. Importing them has been apparently slim in the past few years, and stateside I know of noone that works with them...I know I love them. I've always wanted P. korros because of their reputation as the longest colubrid, and Z. carinatus because it's the only way I'll ever have a snake that looks that similar to O. hannah. Both are just gorgeous though...so if you ever come across them before me...let me know too!
