Put them in a box with some sort of cereal (bran, flour, whatever), add a bit of carrot or potato, or soaked paper towel for water, and that's pretty much all there is to it. They'll do the rest on their own. Could take 6 months or so to get the colony established.

Well, first you have to get beetles from mealworms, just let them grow the the max, then they pupate, then the turn into beetles, ok then get some oatmeal or cream of wheat, and use it as substrate in a concealed conatainer, about 2-3 inches high, put a small piece of driftwood, that's what they lay there eggs on, then just wait about 2-3 weeks, then some little tiny tiny mealworms will rapidly grow, and then they just keep coming and coming. I hope I could help you.

You don't need wood for mealworms. You're giving instructions for zophobas, not tenebrio. I've a thriving shoebox full of mealies in my bedroom, it's been going for over 6 months now. It's finally gotten to the stage where I have worms of all sizes, and beetles, at the same time.
