LEEWAY CORUCIA RESEARCH CENTER (LCRC)
In both Sherri and my experience with Corucia mother/young relationships, We are wondering from others who raise young Corucia (Jess, Susan, ETC.) the following....
If you have had GFO's (GRAVID FEMALE OBTAINED- Young ripped from gravid imported females or dealers who take CB young from their parents) and after introduction, found the adoptive mother driving them away when pregnant with a new baby of their own-at what age did this occur?
In our experience, we had Pollux (Rest her soul- died in the 1/11 Hypothermia tragedy!) reject four intoduced GFO's in their 2nd year of life and chased them around the enclosure to drive them off. (They were lovingly accepted into the SFCRC 99/1 Circulus when they were under 1 year of age. They were imports that came from California. They were stripped from their WC mothers and put aside for sale for additional profit. I rescued them and introduced them to an established Circulus where they calmed down and happily joined the family.) Since other Circulus (SFCRC 99/2, 01/01, etc.) have had CB youngsters kept 3yrs without any rejection, I wonder with GFO's if the following is true. Since Corucia invest a great deal and genetic potential for usually only one large offspring, If the heightened instinct of acceptance of orphaned offspring is acute but short lived compared to the instinct of towards their own Genetic offspring. If there is no additional data on this, it is an important area of study.
Sincerely,
Brian
