Quick BTS food question.

HoodedHoy Mar 10, 2004 11:14 AM

Hello all,
I was wondering what anyone knows about Chickweed, or star chickweed. It's a common garden weed that is edible, and very healthy, to humans. This year I have a nice big patch of it growing next to the compost. Has anyone heard anything about it being good, or bad, for BTS? I believe the latin name is Stelleria Media.
Long time no see,
Jessie

I know this is not the exact answer you were hoping for but I hope it is somewhat helpful anyway. I'm not too sure about chickweed however I do know that BTS eat Dandilions. The flowers and the green leafy part are all eaten by the BTS naturally. I'm not sure about chickweed due to the fact i have no idea what it is apart from your description, but if I were you - I'd call a vet or a reptile breeder close by and just ask if it is poisonous or will end up being harmful in any way.

I have heard of it being ok for tortoises to eat, so it is likely ok for a skink. I would peruse iguana plant lists- there is much more information available on nutritious ig foods.

I looked around a little, and found it listed under possible toxic plants (high nitrates) on this site. Good site, so I would use the plant cautiously.
