Thinking about getting a BRB

BennyD Mar 10, 2004 11:18 AM

Hi all,

I've owned a ball python for YEARS, but I'm getting kind of bored of their lack of personality , so I'm in the market for another snake. I'm thinking about getting a BRB but I don't know if I can handle their strict requirements (no temp above 85, 90% humidity, etc). I'm torn between a BRB, a normal redtail, or a jungle carpet python.

benny, a brb is a fantastic snake. i can see why your interested in it other than your ball python. you say your getting bored with your snakes lack of personality. i hope you know that brb's are noctournal and are not active during the day. some people's snakes are active during the day but its very rare. their requirements are very important for the snake. if they are not met, or you might have trouble keeping them. i might not consider getting a brb. i already had problems with my snake but with help from people on this forum, she is doing 100% better. as jeff clark would say, this is a great snake for anyone who will pay attention to the small details to take care of their snake.

if you need any more info just ask. this forum is filled with very experienced people with these snakes and are all very nice.

There are a few posts a little further down that may be helpful for your decision entitled "some questions".

If you choose your enclosure to meet these requiremnts first you'll have a much easier time with it.

I think the rule of thumbs for them is don't dry em or fry em.

BennyD,
. I think a Jungle Carpet Python is exactly the snake you are looking for. They are very active and will actually come out of their hiding places when you come into the snake room. In a display cage with foliage they will perch out where you can see them. They are more tolerant of a wider range of temperatures and humidity than a Rainbow Boa.
