eating habits of bearded dragon while shedding skin

pfinch Feb 09, 2003 08:57 PM

I have been trying all day to find the answer to this question.
I am a first time bearded dragon owner. On Thursday my young dragon ate 25 meal worms. (I found out today that I should not have let him eat that many at once.) He has not eaten anything since. I see that he is shedding. His elimination has been about 1/2 inch long, once yesterday and twice today.

I need to know if the reason for him not eating may be because he is shedding, or from overeating on Thursday or none of the above. I have eliminated a temperature problem. The temp is fine.

Other than him not eating he seems okay. He is active and curious as always. He is now cuddled in my lap as I type. I have had him for only three weeks and already I have spoiled him. I just want to make sure that our little honey is okay. He is the pet of my first grade class.

Oh, one more thing...he always refuses vegetables. How do i get him to eat them. Yes, I do cut them up fine.

I think the reason he is not eating is because he over ate. I allow my beardie to eat all he wants. He is a year old and we haven't had any problems. Now he eats about 5 times a week. Sometimes he eats every other day. I offer him food every day so if he doesn't eat, he doesn't eat.

As far as veggies, I not only cut them up fine but put the meal worms and super worms in between the veggies. Once he tried the veggies, he liked them, he will even eat lima beans! I would also give him greens. Mine loves mustard, dandelion flowers and clover.

I would wait and see what happens as long as things are coming out they should be going in again soon.
