Edible flowers?

Giantrobo Mar 10, 2004 02:42 PM

Hi All,

I'm having a tough time finding flowers to add to my greens. Do you guys go to florists? Farmer's market? I know what flowers are ok for dragons but I'm not sure where to get them.

Bristol Farms has a small package of "edible flowers" in the refrigerated produce section but there's no list of the flowers included on the label and I don't want to give my dragon(s) the wrong ones.

Any help would be great.

BTW, I'm in the So California area.

I just grow my own. Be wary of any plants you buy. If they have been sprayed with pesticides you have to replant them and wait several weeks for the pesticides to "grow out." I have a list of edible plants on my website. The address is below. Then click on Nutrition Content. The plant list is at the bottom.

Wow! How cool to have you answer my post!

I love your site and your nutrition list is where I've been getting tons of info.

I thought about growing my own but my thumb isn't "green". My Vet had suggested buying prepackaged edible flowers from places that sell organic produce but it's hard to find them. I may ask my friend who's good with flowers to help me.

Thank you! The list is a work in progress as well as the rest of the website. Good luck getting some flowers for your beardie. Mine love pansies and plain old dandelions from the yard.

Thank youf or your hard work.

Pansies and dandelions sound like good place to start.

Good choice for starters. I also did clover and mint the first time I made a little "beardie garden." Those are pretty easy to keep alive and I have a tendency to kill green things too!

dandilions? holy cow...do my beardies *love* dandilions. i can go out and pick some and they are all over them. its fun to watch them tear them apart. i think that's their favorite thing i've ever fed them.

do u feed them the whole head of the dandilion or just the petals ?

schwan Mar 11, 2004 10:16 AM

i give them the whole head. it's fun, also, to hold the dandlilion in there by the stem like you want them to smell it and watching them rip the head all apart.
