Cricket Help

demon_hunter Mar 10, 2004 03:19 PM

Hi, today i recieved my shipment from reptilefood.com, and i ordered 1000 1/8 in crickets, and when i opened the package i only saw about 500 crickets, and most of them were dead. has anyone happened to this before with reptilefood.com, and also if any one might suggest a site where i could order large amounts of crickets for a relatively cheap price? thx for the help,

tony

I have ordered from them in the past and rarely had a problem. Anytime I did I emailed and threy responded quickly, courteously and fixed the problem promptly. That said, they usually send a lot more than ordered b/c there will be die off, also you may be surprised at how quickly they add up when they are that small. They can also be stuck in the egg crate they ship them in. But if you are dissatisfied just let them know.

reptiledepot.com has good prices, and a variety of sizes and are usually prompt in filling orders. I'll tell you right off do not expect to reach them via email it is best to call if you have a problem (phone is on their home page).

I've been very happy with their service. All you need to do is contact them and tell them that half your order died. They will send you another box without any questions. Its not uncommon that you get a box with several dead every now and then. But its good to know that they are willing to work with you.

As a general comment: this is one reason that I tell folks to find out from where a dealer ships and pick the dealer closest to the point of delivery. During periods of extreme heat or cold this will cut down on mortalities. But you have to ask. I foolishly though that a company with New York in their name shipped from NY. Thy actually were shipping from Washington State!

Thx lele, but i have tripled check the egg crates, and to no avail. I know that sometimes those small little insects add up to the number, but im pretty sure my baby chameleons cannot eat more than 1000 crickets in one day. And i have 18 chameleons. Thx for the reply anyway. So im wondering, where do you get your crickets? And also, once am at it, i have been hearing all these days on the posts about mantids, but i dont know where i could get them, and if they are good to feed to your baby veileds? Thx

I use americancricketranch.com
When I ordered crickets i woud buy 2000 pinheads and raise them up. I could probably count the dead ones on my hand.
Great customer service and prompt shipping..
As for the ones you have the best you can do is keep calling and leaving messages..

good. they are a good company to deal with. The only reason I stopped ordering from them was that I needed smaller quantities and with my anoles now enjoying their freedom in FL I only feed Luna and 2 house geckos. herpfood.com (part of reptilefood.com, which I provided a link for in my initial response) offers as few as a one hundred and shipping is included. I can also get butterworms and other stuff in small quantities. If I could get the same from reptilefood.com I would surely use them again!

I will say that even though my crix come in winter from So. Cal to NH I have minimal die off. But Ed's comment on distance can be important if you can find one closer to where you live that offers what you need.

i stopped ordering from herpfood.com because they are part of reptile depot and the orders were always late or missing items or took a week to get here, and i am about a 12 hour drive MAX from them.........

yeah, I have heard mixed things about them, but I have not yet had any serious problems - except that my last order never got shipped...they re-shipped immediatley upon my call and gave me some extras, too

I can't find anyone else who offers smaller amounts with a good selection without having to order from 4 different outlets for 4 different feeders - I wish reptilefood.com would - I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Lele have you tried fluker farms? Because they will deliver about 50 crickets every week. Hope this helps. Here is the link for fluker farms.

srry that didnt work. Heres the one
Fluker Farms

lele Mar 12, 2004 09:31 AM

thanks. I have checked them out in the past and their shipping was very high. I also don't like companies that don't let you know what the shipping is before you fill out all your info - just a pet peeve of mine. I don't like surprises! LOL!

The feed store where I get supplementary crix get their's from Flukers and I will say they are hardy. Btw, I did not see 50/week, but 250/week as their lowest. Weekly shipping would be budget (mine) prohibitive.

Thanks anyway! Until herpfood.com screws up or reptilefood.com starts offering lower amounts....(what would I do with 1000 superworms or 500 waxworms - except start selling thme myself! )

I get 1,000 crickets any size for $11 (they are having a sale) and because I live in Alabama, there's no shipping!
