how old is she? it could be that, if old enough, produced infertile eggs. If so, put her in a laying box to prevent eggbinding, let her lay, and hydrate and feed her immediatly afterwards. If this isnt it, she could just be doing it for fun. When my female (and male) were younger, they used to dig all the time in the bran.

My female is anywhere from 2 to 4 years old

Yes this definetly could be infertile eggs. I would put her in a laying box with moist potting soil piled on one end where she can dig and it wont cave in and see if she lays. Sometimes they do get infertile eggs. Has she stopped eating or anything? This might be a sign also of gravid - ness

Gluck
