Got new dragon today! huge female!!!!

dmlove Mar 10, 2004 04:03 PM

I just got my new adult female dragon in today from a provate breeder. DANG she is fat!!! Like, my male ralph is fat, but compared to her he is anerexic! She weighs in at 467g, i geuss this is normal but ive never had one that big! she has a cool looking body color but an AWESOME beard! bright orange and yellow, and also extremely laid back! Shes got some serious fat on her though, thinking about getting her on a better diet than what she was on. I really want her to go in my other females cage, as her cage is very large. The big female is in quaretine tank right now, a much smaller screen cage. Ill keep her there for about a week, then must put her in a larger cage. I really want Artemis and the new girl to get along, but the new one is lots bigger than her (130 g bigger) and im afraid to put them in together. Whats a safe way to do so? Artemis is very dominant, but smaller, so any suggestions? im of course going to wait till artemis lays her eggs before stressing her out. Any safe suggestions> is it safe to let them make their own pecking order, even if it looks kinda rough in the begining?

thanks

ps ill post pics later, but anyone think of any names for a fat girl? (i was thinking anna nicole, but, ya know, trimspa....lol )

Shes a 10.5 month old SF cross with dull colors, and hes about a year and a half old hypo-orange pastel GG. Hes 20.5 inches and 571.5 grams and she is 18.5 inches and now 467.3 grams, before becoming gravid she was 483.6 grams, a few weeks later she layed 20 eggs. You could barely tell that she layed eggs because she lost so little, yet gained most back in 2-3 days. At the Hamburg reptile show once I saw some all white beardies being carried around that had to have been 2 ft plus, long and heavy!!

One of my females I purchased at a month old and gave her the name Anna Nicole the first week I had her even at that small a size I knew from her appetite, and body shape she would be a monster when older. Well, I was right.. She was 600 + grams, and when her diet switched to an adult diet of mostly greens/pellets and some live foods 2 times a week she lost nothing but 25 grams even through her brumation. She continues to carry a healthy weight, and keeps her fat pads through egg laying which she dropped over 25 of them less then three weeks ago. She was mated to by Big Foster a 23 inch 740 gram male. Foster mated two very large females this year his first year mating. Candy the first female he mated is actually longer then Anna by 2 inches and has her beat on weight as well, but looks lighter due to her long body shape compared to Anna's well pancake stocky shape LOL.

This is Anna red/gold German Giant next to a 320 gram 9 month old Pastel Reaya
