What kind??

FisherCham20 Mar 10, 2004 04:35 PM

What kind of anole is this? Does he look well? He's living in a 30 gallon tank at the moment (was found starving inside). Has basking light on one end and UVB light on the other. Needless to say he's being well feed lol. Baby crickets, baby mantis, and a few tiny wax worms. Thanks!!!

I am not familiar enough with the 300 plus different types of anoles to comment on which one he is, (though he looks like a green anole to me if I had to guess). As far as him being healthy? Looks it to me, if he was starving to begin with you seem to have done a great job brining him back. He shows no signs of starvation now from what I can see. As long as he is eating and has the proper heating and lighting I would say congratulation on bringing him back from the brink of starvation because that is a healthy looking anole.

Looks like a female green anole, actually. Males tend to have longer snouts.

Thanks! Is there anything I do to do special with a female? Will she have to lay eggs (infertile)? I think she got better so quick because I was keeping her in my mantis raising tank. So there was about 180 mantis and about 500 pinheads running around lol. Food would come to her.

Well, some sort of loose substrate that she can dig in, that's moist, will make her comfortable if she decides to lay infertile eggs. Make sure she gets plenty of calcium, regardless, and uvb light. She looks pretty healthy, to me.

yes but the complete lack of markings on the back? I was under the impression that all females would have markings (for geen anoles at least) The complete lack of these markings make me lean toward it being male, but again this just a guess, im not experienced enough with them to say for 100%.

If you are referring to the mid-dorsal stripe, not all females have it. Some males also have the stripe (and some never lose it).
