I do not personally put my Balls in total darkness at any time. If I have a stressed sanke, I put extra hides and try to keep the cage in a low traffic area. This way the snake can stay hidden, and not feel like there are always people around. I would not use complete darkness as this would not be a very good way of replicating the nature light that the sun gives. In the wild, if a snake is stressed there is still going to be sun in the day. I would say by not giving any light, this "could" cause problems in its self. I'm sure for a short period of time, it may work. Just my thoughts.
