My gecko sounded like a bird when breathing fast?

gothra Mar 10, 2004 06:34 PM

I have a young gecko that sounded like a 'bird' when she is nervous or moving fast; she was like that since I bought her which is 4 or 5 months ago, she is still healthy at the moment. However, I have another female that is almost 2 years old, I've had her for over 1.5 yrs and had never heard a noise from her before. Recently, she also chirps like a bird when she is breathing fast. I am worried if this is a sign of illness?

p.s. I discovered that geckos have different sound, one of my adult 'beeps' when he wakes up in the evening; another one 'grrrr' when I do something that he doesn't like e.g. taking him to diferent directions that he wanted to go.

Well, its hard to understand what you mean by "sounds like a bird" I have quite a few of my younger leos (particularly the girls) that squeak or chirp when I handle them.. That is usually followed by them peeing on me, lol. I think we need some more information.... such as tank setup, substrate, etc.

I guess it all deopends on how you handle them. I catch canadian water snakes on a daily basis in the summer. Every one else I know who tries to catch them gets bitten or scent marked. I can just pick them up and they coil around my hand and bask.

She is chirping and I can see the skin on her throat moving as if she is breathing fast. But this only happens if she is moving alot, e.g. climbing glass or hurrying to somewhere.

This one has pooped on my hand once; she has a habbit of climbing glass on top of her humid hide everytime before she deficate; my husband took her out while she was doing this one night, I didn't know, and I took her over to my hand; she walked from one hand to the other, and then lied on my wrist, then here you go, fresh and cold...
