I've bred them fine at 4,600 ft. I'm sure others have done so higher. I have wondered if it would have an effect but suspect that if it has any it would be a temporary thing that they would adjust to (i.e. you might not want to move them up suddenly during the breeding season).
PS: Several years ago my sister in TX purchased 3 borderline breeder sized females from the Barkers in late November. They indicated that the girls where wild bred/captive hatched but I don't remember them saying how long if at all they had been in their care (i.e. at central TX elevation). The males I put them with where also pretty borderline and I wasn't surprised when only the biggest of the females laid eggs and only one was fertile. Due to all the factors such as the size of the females and the young males I can't really blame not getting more babies on the near breeding season change in altitude but at least the one baby shows that it's still possible.
