New question about my RES' health

quietturtle Mar 10, 2004 08:56 PM

Hi again, I am sorry that I havent posted in such a long time. My res is doing a lot better now however I have 2 questions (for now)... the other day I saw him swimming around because I like to watch him and he randomly "yawned" it wasnt like when he eats it was very leisurely and just opened and closed his mouth. Secondly, he is really active and basking and everything but yesterday and today he's been pushing around his large piece of bark. Yesterday it was moved over to the right about 3 inches but he could still get on top of it to bask.. so i left it but today it was flipped up on its side i dont know what his problem is or if he's just being... well a turtle. Sometimes when i have him out for a little bit and he seems to be all dry randomly colorless odorless liquid will pour from his rear/tail all over me... does this mean he's scared, is it just turtle pee... or something bad... Also is there a way to tell how old he is?
Thank you

Yes its urine, its away of getting predators away. Who likes to have their favorite treat urinated in their mouth. About hiw log problem I don't know. Maybe you could tell us a little more about your setup. EX. water depth, gallons, filters. A little more info would be helpful.

It sounds like normal RES behavior, they do yawn from time to time, and they love to move things. I haven't found a basking area yet that can withstand my turtles attacks. I just keep reattaching it. You can't tell RES age by its size, size varies depending on the care he has received and his genetics.
