what would give me better results?

I want to start my sunglow prodject this year. I wanted to make sure my thinking is currect.

DH sunglow X DH sunglow=
25% sunglow (poss. super)
50% Hypo 66% het albino (poss. Super)
25% Hypo (Poss. super)

DH sunglow X Albino=
25% Sunglow
25% Hypo het albino
25% albino
25% het albino

Super Salmon het albino X Albino=
50% sunglow
50% Hypo het Albino

Does all this look currect? I have never worked with co-dom and dom traits before. Just always played around with recessive.

Thank you, Lee

The first breeding scenario is off a little

a dh sunglow to dh sunglow will result in this
25% sunglow
50% hypo that are 66% poss het albino
and 25% that is 66% poss het albino

The way to figure it out the easiest is to look at the codom form of hypo as a het form of a recessive trait..So breeding 2 codom (het form) hypos together is the same as breeding 2 het albinos.

which result in 25% being homozygous/dominant 50% being heterozygous/codominant and 25% being normal/non trait carrier.

Correct me if I'm wrong but breeding a DH Sunglow X DH Sunglow Theoretically will give you:

DH Sunglow X DH Sunglow
18.75% pos. super sunglows
6.25% albinos

Similar to what you said, a het to het will result in 25% homo. Then add the hypo trait to it. Breeding a hypo to hypo will give 75% hypos. Since the hypo and albino are independent events to get the probability of the combined 2 traits you multiply both percentages, meaning:

25% * 75% = 1/4 * 3/4 = 18.75% pos super sunglow
25% - 18.75% = 6.25% albinos

These are standard formulas of statistics and probability based on independent events.

Hopes this helps

If we want to have the exact percentages breakdown here it is

6.25% normal
12.5% Het. albino,
6.25% Homozygous albino,
12.5% codom hypo,
25% codom hypo, Het. albino, (dh sunglow)
12.5% codom hypo, Homozygous albino, (codom sunglow)
6.25% dominant hypo,
12.5% dominant hypo, Het. albino, (dh sunglow)
6.25% dominant hypo, Homozygous albino (dominant sunglow)

This is a post I have been waiting for, for quite some time. A question along these same lines. What is the potential outcome of a DH Sunglow X Het Albino?

Randall_Turner Mar 11, 2004 01:49 PM

12.5% normal
25% Het albino
12.5% albino
12.5% hypo
25% hypo het albino (dh sunglow)
12.5% sunglow

or in the actual way the litter will be looked at is this

12.5% sunglow
12.5% albino
37.5% hypo possible het albino (poss dh sunglow)
37.5% poss het albino
