Help! No change with problem claw

sunfox Mar 11, 2004 09:58 AM

Ra can still walk ok but whenever he's standing still, he holds up his toe with the split claw. I need opinions, quick! Do I take him to the vet or not? Will the claw fall off on its own and a new one grow back? Will I have to cut it? What should I do? It looks like it's hurting him

Thanks all

This picture's sharpness has been increased so you can see the split claw a lot more clearly. It is on the toe that he is holding up in the air. Is there anything I can do? Please help

Well...since he's holding that toe up, I'd assume it's painful, which would probably indicate at least some degree of infection...If it was me, I'd make a vet appointment, but in the meantime I'd put a little Neosporin on the toe, or, if he'll let you, soak it in a warm Betadine solution...

yea, i agree. i wouldn't cut it off cuz if you cut it that far back your likely to hit the blood veins in there and have a huge mess...i would do what was recommended above.
