My Caifornia King will not eat!

RoadKruzer Mar 11, 2004 10:52 AM

I bought a captive born Cal King in Aug. 2003. It was about a foot long. Since then I have not been able to get it to eat. I have tried live pinkies and warm dead pinkies. Unless someone has another suggestion my next alternative is to force feed.

It hasn't eaten since August?!?! My King used to hate pinkies, she refused to eat them. She wouldn't eat for a long time. I finally started feeding her lizards and dead snakes I'd found. When winter got here there were no more snakes and lizards to be found. After a month she finally ate a pinkey, I had found a lizard in my basement, it's tail broke off so I rubbed the blood from it on a pinkie and she ate it. even then I could only get her to eat one every few weeks. Now she has finally gotten a taste for them, she eats about 4 a week now. I can barely get it in the cage before she rips it out of my hand!

Some pet stores sell lizard scent in a bottle. I know your snake is CB but it might be worth a try...

If it has'nt eaten since Aug that is a long haul with no food. My Cal kings slow down in the winter like many snakes but come spring they are at it with a vengance. Make sure your snake is warm enough as cold temps will keep it shut down. I have never had to force feed a healthy Cal king or go to lizard scent, they LOVE rodents. If all your temps and housing is up to snuff and it still has'nt eaten essentially since you got it, a trip to the vet may need to be your next step.
