free-range beardie

mealworm Mar 11, 2004 11:02 AM

Hey,

My adult beardie just finished his brumating cycle but he hates to be in his cage. I let him run around my room a lot and I've set up a heat lamp and everything he needs outside of his cage. I get worried though that he doesnt get the heat he needs cuz he usually picks a cool spot to sleep. Will he know whats best for him or should I just keep him in his cage where I know hes getting the right temps. Anyone else have a free-range beardie?

What about UVB? How can you be sure that your beardie is getting an adequate supply of UVB? The reason he's most likely sleeping when he gets out of his cage is because his body cools down and he wants to sleep. I would keep him in his cage so you can regulate the temps and UVB. Just my 2 cents.

yeah im afraid your right. Lenny is not exactly potty-trained either. I just hate seeing him cooped up in his cage all the time.

Is it possible to get him a larger cage and sell his old one? Or how about building him a custom one? There are a lot of cool cage designs out there with the fake rock walls. Just a thought.

What if you gave him a bigger cage with more toys and things to climb on?
