rankin/ lawson dragons questions

Tas Mar 11, 2004 11:25 AM

Hey I just found out about Dwarf Bearded Dragons or Rankin/ Lawson dragons. Does anybody know where you can get them I did a search and only came up with care sheets but no real breeder. They sound really cool. They seem to have the same behavior and temperament as the bearded Dragons, but only get to be half the size. Does anybody have them and can you tell me if what I am reading is true or not? Thanks again.

i have a rankin's dragon...

...he is sweet and kind. a very pretty shade of yellow, too.

he is about 10 inches long, and breeds with my midget beardie (who is only 14 in. long.)

you take care of them about the same, but he requires more water then my beardie. i love him, he's great!

i picked him up at a herp show last year, so i wouldn't know where to get them. those babies on sundialreptile do look awefully cute, though. you should go for that reduced price juvie--the one with the messed up toes...i would if i had room for another =).

hope i helped,

amanda

Do you know if they fill out or not?

schwan Mar 11, 2004 01:54 PM

yes, he is fully grown. this picture was taken shortly after i got him (right after quarantine) and i was told he was a year and a half when i got him.

since then he has gotten a bit more rotund but his body is definitely still much more narrow than hers and he really hasn't got a beard. his spines are much smaller, his head quite round compared to her triangular shaped head, and his claws are much smaller than hers. i think he looks a lot like kermit the frog.

so they are not exactly like dwarf beardies, but almost.

I would love to see what they look like when full grown. They look like baby beardies in every thing I have seen them in so far I just wanted to see if it is true when full grown.

well, he looks nearly exactly the same. i actually don't have a recent pic of him right now, but i can get one soon and post it. maybe tomorrow? he's definitely no baby in that last picture, though...shortly after it was taken he was breeding with his midget lady friend...

here is a picture of one of their boys. he's taken on much of his daddy's color--definitely yellow and some orange--but looks just like his mother.

Do they enjoy being handled? I read somewhere that they can only stand it for like 5-10mins where as a breaded dragon will chill for hours.

schwan Mar 11, 2004 04:08 PM

emilio loves to be handled. he is a little different from moltar in that she'll just sit there and look around and relax where as he will sit there for a while, walk around a bit, sit there again for a while, walk around a while...sometimes when as i'm picking him up he does this weird thing where he'll start walking backwards...

and they will both sit and bask in the window sill on a warm sunny day. i can't wait to set up my reptarium screen cage for them and take them out in the summer to let them play.

i'm happy to answer any of your questions!!!

Is your little dragon full grown? The rankins? I am curious, because I have a dragon who is three months old, and we were told he is a yellow/red but he is kinda small and skinny, and he actually looks EXACTLY like yours..but he is longer...11 inches and growing...but that pic is the first pic I have seen that looks like my dragon..
