Another "help me find a snake" thread...

Bovox Mar 11, 2004 11:44 AM

Okay, I will soon have an empty 30 gallon long tank and need suggestions on what snake to fill it with. Here are some vague stipulations:

I'm looking for a Boa or Python (no colubrids)
Something that doesn't hide all day
Obviously nothing super big (must fit in a 30 gallon long)
Good temperament

Will consider all suggestions!

Ball Python
Spotted Python
Children's Python
Irian Jaya Carpet Python
Jungle Carpet Python (male, females need larger enclosures)
Rosy Boa

Yeah! Exactly! I have the fever for the flavor...

I already have one Ball Python, so I'm looking for something other than those. But they are great snakes. I've thought a lot about JCP's but is a 30 gallon long big enough?

I've heard of 30 gallon breeders (I was assuming that's what you meant) that are 36x18x12. When I was considering a JCP I contacted Will Leary at Repticulus Reptiles and asked him what he kept his in. He keeps his adult males in cages that are 36x24x18 (Boaphile cages). He said females he puts in 4 foot long cages. I know those aren't exactly the same dimensions as a 30 gallon, but I'm thinking it might be okay - but I'm no expert!

Hi there:

Kenyan sand boas are nice, but you almost never see them. Rosy boas are great, but they like to hide as well. Ball pythons are great pets, but if you are looking for someting a little more exotic, a spotted python or children's python would also work. How about a Hogg Island boa?

I've been a long time sufferer, but luckily my mental immune system can usually keep it under control.

LOL. It can be a problem. But it can be fun too!
