swollen eye?

This is not a ball python it is a redtail boa but when I posted in that forum I got only one answer that told me next to nothing so I was hoping since I got lots of help here with my balls you may be able to help with the redtail.

the redtail was bought at a show as CB. it is young (only a little over 1 foot long). it is being kept in a 10 tank. the snake has been fine for three weeks and then I looked in yesterday and his right eye looks like it is sticking out farther than the left. It does not seem like there is any problem with the area around the eye and it kind of looks like there is a build up of fluid under the lens covering the eye. a few days ago somehow I spilled a bit of sand into his enclosure and I was wondering if the sand could have caused iritation of the eye. the only other thing that has changed is I am watching my parents car. could the snake be allergic to the cat?
-----
1.1 ball pythons (Draco and Naga)
1.0 red tail boa (no name yet...still working on that)
0.0.1 Fire Belly Toad (Prince William)
coming soon (well not that soon...need more space and tanks first)
1.0 blood python (lestat)

Sounds like an eye infection, but I don't think that the sand would cause it. It's hard to tell what else it could have been. A vet visit might be in order, since if it is infected, the only way to get the excess fluid out and apply topical antibiotic to the eye is to cut a window into the eyecap. I don't know how well injections or oral antibiotics would work alone. A snake I had ordered online a couple years back showed up with an eye infection, but even with treatment it was too late and she ended up blind (though maybe she was already blind before?). I don't know if this even answers any of your questions... oh well.
