Silkworm vs superworm- any thoughts???

mngrivera Mar 11, 2004 04:08 PM

Well I have been giving my beardies silkworms since I first bought my beardies. Considering the cost factor between the both what are your thoughts on superworms? Are they a worm that I can be given daily? My guys are on rep-cal pellets and greens. I love hand feeding them their worms so they generally get silkworms everyday. Would this be a problem and how many is too many daily or otherwise? Jess is 9.5 inches at almost 4 months and Goldberg is 13.5 inches at almost 6 months old. Any input would be appreciated.

Silkies are much higher in calcium and they don't have the hard outer shell that the supers have. I don't feed more than 4 or 5 supers a weeks to my beardies. But when I give out silkies - I can give those daily or every other day. I think my beardies love silkies more than any other live feeder.

Thats what I thought. But you know sometimes you just got to ask!! LOL I perfer the benefits of the silkworms plus there isn't a second thought if I give them a little extra BUT thats definitely not the case with superworms. I worry about that outer shell. So then the response is- superworm isn't an everday staple and I would have to limit the amount I would give them right? Thats a shame-I gave them their first taste of a superworm a few days ago and they jumped on it! I guess they got excited on their movement. I'll use them as a once in a while treat then. Thank you for sharing!!

Despite all the hype around supers ... I don't feed them to my dragons at all.
Silkworms have no exoskeleton to speak of, and are like veggie filled sausages. Stick with the silkies.
