Egg Info.

Dedalus Mar 11, 2004 04:46 PM

Ok, one clutch was infertile for sure they went yellow and collapsed on the second day. The other clutch im not sure about. They aren't collapsing and the eggs are a nice white color and chalky. The only problem is they aren't smooth they have large oval dents from tip to tip on the top/side. Incubator temp is 86 I'm assuming there infertile but I'm going to candle them tonight. Is my humidty to low? What's everyones take on the situation?

I would recommend going to albeysreptiles.com they have a great page on the right temperate humidty and oxygen levels for incubation. Check it out and you can figure what went wrong. I haven't had any eggs so I don't know what is fertile or not but just by readng these forums I know a fertile egg feely chaulky and like a stiff marshmellow.

Good Luck!

The second clutch is chalky and hard they just have a long dent rather than deep along the side/top.

If they are fertile and denting in at the top you need more humidity. You may want to add a little water to the medium .If you have a humidity guae it would help.

Also what I do is tear a peice of paper towel a little bigger then the egg make it damp(not too damp) and place it over the egg.
If it is fertile it shound pop out.
If you try it be sure to check on it in the morning, so the paper towel does not dry out. If the dent is out you can remove the paper towel if not dampen it again and check it again later.

If the dents aren't caving them in completely, and are shallow, I would assume that your humidity isn't high enough.
