Has anyone tried Ecotherm's new foods??

girliegirl Jun 11, 2003 10:15 AM

I was browsing at Big Apple Herp and found them. I posted the description below. Think they are worth giving a try? I'm not thrilled w/the Spinach for an ingredient, but there's no telling how much is in there either.

Thank you! )

spinach and carrots being the first two ingredients on the list i dont think its all too appropriate for a dragon.

That's what I thought. Thanks!

By the way welcome back Reiko!!

I bought it just to try it along with the other foods, more like a treat, not as the main diet.
They did like it however, I found that it made the poo a little more runny and smelly than normal. I didn't even use half the bag and I stopped. Especially with the small ones, you don't want them wasting their water in loose stools.

I wouldn't use it any more than a treat because of the carrots & spinach, to be honest, I'm not going to use it at all.
Want my bag? LOL

No. I don't like smelly poo either. LOL
Thanks!

The specific Dragon Yummies ingredients are:
Water, Dandelion Greens, Alfalfa, Carrot, Beet, Parsley, Watercress and Crickets.

There are different kinds of yummies, the person who posted (I forget who) must have read the ingredients on another kind.

I have not personally used it although I have heard from a source I trust that it can be a good additive to their salads. Just shred it like you would carrots, or squash and add it that way.

But like I said I have not tried it yet and what works for one person might not work for another! Wont know till you try though LindsayMarie

No, as I stated in my original post I copied (Click, Drag, Control C) what was written in the description for the DRAGON YUMMIES from Big Apple Herp. If those ingredients had been listed then I wouldn't have thought twice about at least giving it a try. Where did you get your ingredients from? Big Apple must have them wrong. Have a nice day!

I remember seeing spinach on the bag in Orlando,,, I put one bag down and picked up another at the other end of the table and decided to get one bag just to give as a treat.
Well, last night I went & got the bag out of the fridge to check because I know I had seen spinach,,, well sure enough, the bag I have does NOT have spinach in the listing?
Perhaps they changed the ingredients at some point?

Interesting.

That is very interesting. I still don't think that I will try it. Especially since you have one w/out spinach and it still made the poo runny. Big Apple must have it wrong or one w/different ingredients. More than likly it's the wrong info (BIG typo). I know I do it all the time at work. Thanks for letting me know.

Do you live in/near Orlando? I don't know why, but I thought you lived up north somewhere. There aren't that many people here that are floridians. Thanks for all the info!

You know, it may be like a dog though, how a sudden change in diet can upset their stomach. It may just take them time to get used to it????
That is a thought but it's not like I gave it to them as the total diet. I chopped it up and put some on top of the already in use diet.
It could also be from what ever kind of gel they use to hold the stuff together?

Who knows,, it would take more time "in use" to make any half way educated guesses. I only used it for about a week and stopped. I stopped because, I was selling the babies and I didn't want the new owners to panic thinking it was from parasites.

Maybe, I'll keep trying with the adults to see what happens.

Later.

I went right to the source for the info! It looks though that they have recently changed (improved) the dragon yummies.

www.ectotherm.com/ect/dragon.htm

It does state new formula, when they switched I dont know? The ingredients they have listed as well as the analysis doesnt sound bad for an additive to a salad. Im thinking I will give it a try when I get a little extra money. Who knows....

Take care, Lindsay

I don't think it says on the bag but they told me at the show, to refrigerate after opening.
Just something you might be wondering after you get it.

...for the Link. Those ingredients sound a heck of a lot better than the ones I had. I think that big apple has old stuff. It's not in bags like that, but in screw top jars. But is the same company. Leave it to me to be the one to get bad info. Oh well. Thanks for letting me know the change in ingredients. If you do try it, will you let me/us know what you think, or if you see any differences?

Thanks again. Have a great weekend!!

Carrie

I, too, bought a $5 bag of each. I don't get much feedback from my crickets but they have eaten the yummies all up, seems to be a neat clean way to feed and gutload.
As far as the Dragon Yummies goes, my babies and females were the only ones who ate it. They seem to nibble at it, I sprinkled tiny pieces of it over their salads. I dropped the tiny pieces into the baby's tanks and they attacked it voraciously! My males that did try it, took one bite, spit it out and ran across to the other end of the tank terrified!
The texture is real weird, like a real dense Gummy Bear.
I liked the idea of it having greens and crickets in one product for my convenience but none of mine ate enough of it to see what it did to their stool.
Not sure if I will reorder or not.
