Starving/sick Male help please

dmlove Mar 11, 2004 06:16 PM

Alright, my male hasnt been eating at all for over 3 weeks, I was worried a lot, and still am, and i brought a fecal to the vet anout 2 weeks ago, with a positive for coccidia, but only a very little. We treated it with baytril and then his fecal was negative. He hasnt been eating since. Ive given him all his fav foods, but nothing. My vet went out of town last week, and wont be in for 1 or two more weeks, he is on a big trip for his practice. The people there dont know how to do fecals, so im stuck here. Ive been giving him parazap tea for two days, and will continue for a week more, maybe he has parasites again. His fat pads are shrinking, im sooo scared and worried. Im going to hand feed him some chicken baby food mixed with sweet potato and veggie baby food, along with some caclium with that and pedialyte. Im going to force it down him. Would this be good? once the vet gets back in town, im there. Already scheduled a full checkup and fecal. Am i doing alright? im just kind of in shock, hes always been healthy, so i cant really think straight. Thanks for all your help

If your vet gave you baytril it wasnt for the coccidia. Im a vet tech and Baytril is an antibiotic not a dewormer. If you decide to force feed do it very slowly and not much at once. I have a sick dragon I am force feeding, and after 3-4 weeks with no eating he took 4 mealworms on his own.
Good Luck

i just gave him 4-5 syringefulls of pedialyte mixed with chicken baby food, peach baby food, and sweet potato baby food and calcium/d3 supplement. He got almost all of it down. He seems more active already.

It sounds like you are doing all that you can do. Good Luck, hope he improves.
