RI or just problems with shed? (slightly winded)

hoodoovoodoo54 Mar 12, 2004 02:07 AM

somy big male shed today. however, about 4 days ago i noticed he was doing a small amount of mouth breathing, and also, when he hissed at me (he's that special kind of blood ) it sounded slightly gurgly. the one thing that i thought may have been a problem was that i soaked him the night before, and well, in my state of.. ahem... stupor i sort of left him soaking for the better part of the night. when i got him out he was by no means cold, but at the same time he definitely wasnt warm. during this same time i was soaking the cage daily to help him with the upcoming shed. anyway, is RI something that they can just "get over"? or could it have been that the shed was constricting his airways and causing similar symptoms? like i said, he shed last night and when i was messing with him today his hisses sounded perfectly clear, and he seems to be just fine, i know that the only way to truly find out is to get him to a vet but i figured since he seemed to be shaping up i'd check here first. thanks for any help.

first ofall, when i said "soaking the cage" i basically mean spraying quite heavily. he's a big boy, about 5.5 feet and i've got him in a 6' vision model 622 (72"x28"x18" and i've had some problems keeping the humidity in so i tend to spray a little heavy. after noticing these symptoms i stopped spraying and stopped soaking, and well, he had a pretty nasty shed, but nothing stuck and i figured one bad shed isnt as bad as a case of RI. anyway, like i said earlier, could the change to the dryer environment have caused him to just get over it? i'm keeping a real close eye on him and if anything shows up again he's going to the vet immediately, but, for now it's a little bit of trivia for all you "bloody nuts" out there g'nite
