Now i am starting to worry

funkymonkey Mar 12, 2004 03:54 AM

All.

Well grumpy still hasn't laid any eggs,
It's got to have been a good 5 weeks now that she has been fat and lumpy and also with the orange colouration.

She is fine health wise and is eating still ok.

Could there be somethign wrong or have i just mis calculated my dates ??
She has a large laying area which is covered over slightly with a flower pot to provide shade and a get away fromthe other guys in the viv.
i am daily giving them dusted crickets and locusts with calcium.
and every so often silkworms.

is there a problem do you think ?? or anything i can do ?

taaaa

I would not worry yet, as you may have miscalcualted! Sometimes some are a tad longer.

before laying her appetite will decrease, you will notice, and she will be digging here there and everywhere. Whee ya see these things, its real soon for the eggs.

If it goes to long and she seems to get lethargic, sickly in anyway, then she would be eggbound and have to go to the Vet !

But since shes fine otherwise, Just be patient, a bit longer!

Good luck, Funky, hope she lays soon! Let us know!

Sorry forgot to mention that. Sometimes females can actually reabsorb the eggs.

Alot better than being eggbound, thats for sure ! So if she does not lay, hope for that.

Cheers Eve.

I didn't realise that they could re absorb the eggs, thats kinda odd, but if it's ok for her then ok with me.

She doesn't dig really but she does sleep under a log everynight so wouldn't need to dig much if she wanted to lay them under the log.

I was even beginning to think, is it just because they get a little fatter when they are ready to mate and she hasn;t actually mated, but I cant see that being the case as she is a little fatty and there does seem to be egg shapes inside her.

Eggbound ?!?!? whats that ??

they are not able to lay, they may strain, or try but are unable.
Evenually, they grow very weak, sickly and will die.

We had a buddy on here HD, who actually took his female and had surgery done, to remove the eggs and safe her. She did survive, and did well, but has since passed.

Even with treatment some do not make it !

But as Johne said making a nesting spot that is suitable is VERY IMPORTANT , without it , they are stressed and become somewhat FRANTIC searching for a place.

So make sure there is atleast 3 inches of dampened sand in her place. If ya notice she picks a different place, then dampen it there !

I like to pour a cup of water in there, then mix it by hand...if it's too wet, add some dry sand from the tank...to drive...a bit more water.

No worries on the sand being wet enough,
I check the lay box every day which is damp enough to ball up but not dripping wet.

Also the sand in their viv is in general much damper now as i often mist areas where one of them has been digging.

makes it much harder to clean them out but my main priority is that gumpy is ok.
even if the eggs dont make it or whatever, i dont want to loose my little grumps...

At leats it's the weekend from now so i can keep an eye on her and make sure she is ok.

cheers for all your help guys.

A friend of mine has had great success with his females like this...

When they appear to be taking too long, he will actually put them under a clay flower pot base on the sand...not propped at all. He holds them down, and cover them up with the flower pot base. He has had them dig in and lay the eggs. Might be worth a try.

Well i dont think things are gonna happen.

The orange colours seem to be fading away.
Still in best of health and eating fine, looking great, but just not happening.
not sure if she is slowly getting less fat or not.
