cbluefairy Mar 12, 2004 10:19 AM

hi there i posted a few weeks ago ... we got our ball python he/ she is so nice ! no prob holding her and she seems timid the only prob is she wont at for us we have had her 2 weeks and try every monday to feed her frozen thawed mice but she hasnt eaten for us yet we have a copy of her feeding sched from the petstore the lady there says to give her time to adjust to her new home. she went from a 20 gallon tank to a 100 gallon she seems to like it though~ stretches out on the bottom to bask ,she is about 2 ft long i think she is a clown morph according to a website i went to i dont care about the whole morph thing i just love her !! any ideas on feeding and advice?

just give her a month or so to settle in before even offering her food, especially if she has been put into a bigger cage. also make sure that there is a secure hide box for her.

i dont mean to be rude but i doubt she is a clown as the prices are much higher than a normal

Heating is very important, if your new Ball is not warm it will not eat, and if it does it won't digest. In a 100 gallon tank you probably should have belly heat (under the tank) at one end.
That seems to be the most common mistake amoung newbies. Also if you are handling it all tie time it may be stressed. Leave it alone for 4 to 5 days before feeding. What is your setup?

yes we have a under tank heater and basking light on one side of the tank w one therm on top and one on bottom the top one says 100 and bottom tank one is at 85 cool side is 74 there humidity is at 60 on both sides and there are plants one at each temp range for her to hide in (thick plants so good hide)and she likes to climb a branch to bask on occasion she seems to be adjusting well she comes out at night and crawls around .should we just try to feed her once a week till she takes it? we dont handle her too often but just enough so that she doesnt get used to no touch etc

Take one of those orange clay flower pots and break little hole big enough for her to get through one side and turn it upside down. She made need a better hide dark area. just a thought. good luck with her.

It sounds as though your setup is correct. One thing you might want to consider is an actual hide just big enough for your baby to curl up and feel cozy and safe. BP like to be snug as opposed just behind or under the plant. I use upside-down heavy-plastic-dog bowls with an archway cut out. You could probably find somethng around the house to experiment with. I would not worry during this time of year. Most of us had BPs go off feed at one time or another. As long as your setup is fine and she is not showing signs of any illness I'll bet she will be fine.
