How to make your own snake rack?

dawgball79 Mar 12, 2004 11:15 AM

Does anyone have any plans or ideas for a snake rack you can make on your own. What materials to use? How to heat it? And dimensions. I want to be able to house at least 6-8 balls individually in a rack system. thanks nate

I can barely make toast come out right at times, so I'm no help here. I'm actually buying a premade rack next weekend.

Anyway, you should check out the caging forum here on Kingsnake. You're sure to get a lot of great info there.

Hello Nate,

A couple of months ago, we were building a new rack for use of growing up Boa constictors. This rack uses plastic storage boxes that could be purchased at Sam's Club for about $6.50 ea. These boxes are quite large but if the space in not so much of an issue... this rack would be GREAT for larger Ball Pythons, particularly breeding females.

Many thanks to Celia for taking all the photos and taking her time to transcribe all that we did to make these racks.

If you are not looking for something with tubs this large or are looking for something a little more "contained" many people have used Markus Jayne's rack building plan with great sucess...

Mark... I hope you don't mind that I linked that up.

Hope this helps...

here is a link to another rack. it is similar to markus jayne's. this one requires little to no cutting. i made one like this but moved the front side support to the rear so that there is a dark area as in markus jayne's rack. it was easy to make. just some drilling and screwing. no cutting. good luck. rin

Troy''s ladder rack

It holds 4 adults and 3 juvies...

38" Wide X 18" Deep X 38" High
I made it out of 3/4" Melamine and had to buy one sheet 49X97 and one sheet 48X36.

It holds 4 43qt tubs sideways and 3 12 qt tubs lengthways....5 Shelves...

I used 11" Flexwatt taped to the shelves for bottom heat...wired each strip to the next so only one cord was necessary.

This was my first attempt at building a rack and it turned out pretty well.....but my god its pretty heavy....maybe I'll choose to use a different material than melamine next time.....

Have fun!
