Question on Jacksons horn shape

LaMerbelow Mar 12, 2004 12:37 PM

I was just wondering if the shape of the horns would indicate whether or not it was wild caught? For example if the horns were more curved would that mean they were wild caught while straight horns meant it was captive bred? If so would that just be because captive born chameleons are provided with more nutrition such as calcium?
Thanks

Nutrition certainly has something to do with horn development. But I don't think just being CB or WC is a determining factor. I've seen WC Jackson's with straight horns, and CB with curved, badly deformed horns.
It's probably a combination of genetics, nutrition and environment that determine horn development, no matter where they came from.

Also, I really don't think curve in horns is directly related to health. Like deer antlers, there is always going to be some randomness involved as fars a which direction they "point".

Thanks for all your info! Someone tried to convince me that straight horns meant they were CB and curved horns meant they were WC.
