Vet visit question...

Tigergenesis Mar 12, 2004 12:43 PM

when taking a new snake to the vet just for an initial checkup, if the exam goes well and the fecal turns out okay should the vet still give Panacur or anything to the snake?

The vet shouldn't medicate if no problem is found. If they do find something, ask what they found, just so you know.

Depends on if they had a fresh fecal, amt, and age of the snake just because it was negative does not mean anything. Panacur is very safe.

When I took my BP in (petstore snake) I didn't have a fecal sample and the vet had to 'encourage' one from my little guy. She gave him Panacur.

When I took my Mexican Black Kingsnake (from a breeder), I had a sample that he/she left that morning and he didn't get any Panacur.

Both their samples came back negative, so I was assuming it was because the origin of the petstore snake was not exactly known.
