Howdy! I have a 2 year old male colombian. I've had him pretty much the whole two years. The main thing that you need to remember is that you need to be consistent and persistent. When I first got Blake, it would take me about 45 min. to get him out of his enclosure. The reason that it took me so long was because I wanted him to be settled down and not ticked off when I got him out. Gradually over time the amount of time it took got less and less. At the time that I got him I had a pretty set schedule so I took him out at pretty much the same exact time every day. And I mean I handled him EVERY day. There was maybe one day a month that he wouldn't get out of his enclosure and that's it. I was dedicated. And it has totally paid off.

Blake is now basically "dog tame." I had him in my wedding. I've taken him to do grade school presentations. He's absolutely terrific. But in the beginning he was incredibly cranky. It just took time and consistency to get him to chill out. Initially I would take him into the bathroom and shut the door and just let him crawl around. I would just sit there and read a book. That way he got used to me being a non threatening entity. I gradually increased the amount of time that we spent in there. Now I take him out every day and he gets at least an hour to roam around the apartment.

I think that pretty much covers it. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I LOVE colombians!
