African Hinged SideNeck (pelusios castaneus)

dragonshoe Jun 11, 2003 11:49 AM

I have a full grown female African Hinged Sideneck pelusios castaneus, but I can no longer keep her because of demands of other reptiles. I am not trying to sell her on this board and not trying to break any rules, I was just wondering how much this beautifull turtle is worth and where would I sell her for a decent price. Thanks a ton.

The value of many of the African sidenecks depends a lot on their condition. Many if not, most of the imports are pretty banged up with shell rot etc. They are not highly valued and not many people want them.
However, perfect hatchlings and captive raised adults are very nice and worth a good bit more.
I used to see an adult female castaneus at a pet store that was there for at least a few years. She was in a large aqaurium and was a calm, flawless captive raised beauty. But, she was for sale for only $25.00 and still she was there a long time.
They should be worth more in my opinion but for some reason they aren't.
