What type/model scale do you use/recommend?

Mayo Mar 12, 2004 10:08 PM

I have a female leo that isn't eating and was advised to see if she is losing weight (doesn't look like it to me). But it is proabably a good idea to invest in a scale. What brand/model is most often used for leos? I am willing to spend in the $40-50 range for something that is accurate to 1gm and fairly easy to calibrate.

I use a sunbeam model SP5 that I got for $30 at office max. Any old mail or kitchen scale should do if you're only looking for 1g accuracy. $50 should be able to get you a decent lab scale though, look for OHAUS scales in that range, and these will give you an accuracy of 0.1g.

Here is the scale I bought about a year ago, It’s in your price range, and it works well:

Go to ebay. I got some Triton digital scales, .1g-100g, w/ tare, expandable tray, etc for $25 shipped. They're very accurate, too.

Just bought a Jennings JS-250 for $30 shipped off ebay. I have bought just about everything I own off ebay for the past 5 years. You can't beat the place. 250gram max with 0.1 increments, also includes a 100g weight for calibration, wish it came with a 25g or 50g, but I will settle for the 100g. Jennings has been around for 30 years and has great warranties, so I should be set.
