A Rat..........................

my ball is two and a half ft long.should i try feeding him a rat?or should i wait till he gets bigger?

Depends on the size of the rat. A weaned rat or pup should be fine. Even a smaller "small" rat would probably be ok. If you are feeding live keep an eye on it.

Feed an appropriate sized food item - if that's a rat then feed him a rat.

I prefer to get them on rats as early as possible.

I find the longer you feed mice; the more resistant some snakes are to switching later.

I breed my own rats though, so I always have a range from pink to large on hand, thus I always have appropriate sized rats to offer. If you purchase feeders locally, I know many stores only offer small/med/large, and a small may be too big for your snake.

So in conclusion I would say if you have the accessibility to appropriate sized rats (dependant upon the girth of your snake) absolutely offer one.

In the stores around my area they only have med,large,and jumbo.

if you have multiple snakes it might be cheaper if you buy from an online rodent place.
