Black and Super White NJ Eastern King - Adult female.

Keith Hillson Mar 13, 2004 12:24 AM

My breeder Burlington Co.,NJ Eastern just shed and I guess I forgot how freakin white her crossbars are ! There isnt a smudge of gray black yellow or any other color but bright neon white. She is the cleanest adult Ive ever ever seen in pics or in person. Next year I may breed her to my NC/MD male who is also a freakishly white and black Easterns . I dont know how many Easterns some of you guys have raised but alot of bright pretty babies get pretty grayed out as adults and look dirty so this will be an exciting project.

Here is the male Im thinking of using. He is 36" (2002)and she is around 45" or so. These will be non locality of course. What do you guys think of this pairing ?

I'm sure the offspring would be exceptional. I guess you can either breed to enhance certain attributes or breed for the whole natural history/locality thing. What ever floats your boat - lol. I certainly would be interested to see what you end up with.

Keith,

Actually I have seen a few really nice ones like that in the wild in my area.(NJ) Most are usually yellowish but occasionally I will find some nice white chained ones.As for pairing the two, I say go for it, they would make some really nice babies in my opinion.

Thanks,
J.D.

Looks like a winning combo to me. Give me a call when they produce, and I'll run up to pick up a pair.

I was a hardcore locality guy but you simply miss out out on too many things when you put the locality blinders on. I think one of the reasons is the authenticity of the animals that are non-locality. I kinda like using known locale animals and mixing them up for desired traits. That NC/NJ I used to have (not bred by me) is a good example of a nice mix. Below is a pic of her. I may use her next year with the NC/MD male as well as she belongs to a friend of mine now.

I know you guys go for the nice black and white thin patterned ones but I really dig the clean wide banded ones from SE VA and NE NC. This one (from your site) was produced by me in 2002 and looks to be on its way to being a screemer. You should have seen the mother. She was wild collected from a sandy area. She almost looked like a white snake with black blotches. Wish I'd taken pics. Some day I'll take the time to read that dig cam manual!

Tony do you still keep that locality ? That is one of my favorite pics on the site. I like extremes either really thick or really thin but in betweens are great too... ah well I guess I just love them all

One of my favorites on Keith's site is that Pungo Ridge Eastern King in the Virginia locality. I love that animal. Very nice contrast.
