Weird black dots on Female red blood..

norml32 Mar 13, 2004 12:50 AM

I posted a few months ago about this. Both of my Sumatran red bloods have developed a strange pattern of black dots across their bodies. Is this coloring? They are both around 8 months...could they be changing color/blood puberty?
I took them both to the vets and paid a nasty $125 to have a full exam and fecal done only to find that their scales are fine and normal, no fungus under the microscope and fecals totally clean. I have tried a couple of hydrogen peroxide baths (suggested on here before) and no change. The dots do not move and cannot be rubbed off...and are all over my female in a definite pattern. I have also noticed that her head has darkened quite abit. She eats fine and has become the "snappy" type in personality.

Any suggestions?

Hey,
I would go treating an unknown with something (meds) of otherwise, with out knowing for sure that what you are seeing is infact a problem. First off, why don't you post a picture of the area in question for us to view and then we can help to make a final judgement of what we think it can be. Otherwise, you'll probably end up making an otherwise healthy animal sick for lack of proper judgement on what is probably a normal skin condition and nothing more. Test were negative right!! So there you go. It's probably just an area with increased melanin and nothing more.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a digital camera at the moment. Spoke with the vet before doing the bath and we decided to do a 10% HP bath, which she guaranteed me was 100% safe for the snake. It did not seem to affect/effect her in anyway.

Just to let you know what was said about using hydrogen peroxide, It was me who has used this method for some wierd looking bumps, like the scales are being rotted away.I mentioned to use a wet wash rag with hydrogen peroxide to clean the infected area, not a bath, then follow up with some polysporin
daily.Just to make this clear. It worked for me in two different incidents. This info was given on a redtail boa website, and seemed to be the easiest method which proved to me that it works.Sounds like your spots are different in your case, too bad we couldn't get a picture to see whats going on.Hopefully everythings all good, sounds like the vet seemed to be ok with what they saw.
