I asked this question on the Hybrid forum and got no answer. Can a Machlott's python and a white-lipped python be cross bred? They are closely related I think.

Hi
even if it would be possible to do this (and I actually do not really doubt that somehow) why would one want to do that?
It's hard enough to breed wlps finding a "compatible" pair that produces fertile eggs.
Sorry, but I'm not really into this kind of cross-breeding.
Anyway, what would you expect to get out of this cross breed?
cheers,
Wulf

I like to experiment. Just to see what would happen. I have access to these snakes, so it got me thinking. I understand that many want to keep species lines "pure". As long as the hybred is not claimed to be anything but a hybred, I see no harm. In fact, may such crossings occur in nature. I have a curious mind and am always thinking "what if".
Hi,
well a hybrid between Leiopython albertisii and Liasis mackloti mackloti does not occur in nature, as the distributions are not the same. They wouldn't even have a chance meet. Better chances for Liasis fuscus and Leiopython albertisii, as both occur in the same region in PNG at the Trans-Fly delta of the Western Province.
Cheers,
Wulf
