I give up LOL

RedQuake Mar 13, 2004 08:28 AM

I was checking out all of the geckos this morning and found that Bronx had shed but not completely...this is an ongoing problem with him even with a humid hide. So i went and made sure his hide was nice and moist only to find myself dodging his attacks of screaming and trying to bite. Once i was out of his tank he calmed down but stood at the glass glaring at me, then walked up on top of his log as high as he could.... Now i haven't been into Boo's tank nor any of the others before this happened so thats not the cause of his outburst. Every time i take off the top of his tank he freaks out...even when i'm putting in mealworms. he seems to be getting worse instead of better and my increased presence in his tank to try to get him used to me only seems to be stressing him out more.

Now i do have a question......is there a lack of a specific vitamin/mineral that causes shedding problems? My other geckos get the skin off, i don't understand why he doesn't. Now i realize that particulate substrates aren't the best idea, but my only thought is that he isn't using the humid hide. Is there a substrate i can put on the warm side of the tank so that he can't avoid it? or use a huge container that would take up the warm side and fill it with substrate or would that be to much?

Thanks for any suggestions

Hey i give mine a bath. I put some paper towel down, so they don't slide around and fill it like an inch if that up with warm warm water in a rubbermaid container. Its helped with getting stuck shed off toes and constipation. She goes in the container, its gross cuz its floating in water but hey easy clean up :D
anyhue but if he's jumpy like you say he might not appreciate being stuck in a sauna. I also spray the cages, cuz i know my room is really dry.

good luck

Ya i've done that, got bit in the process LOL. Its just this happens almost every time he sheds so taking him out to soak him each time just gets him more upset. It would be great to find a way to get him to shed without my interferring. I'm thinking a huge humid hide as the only hide on the warm side with spots for him to lay out if need be.
