Red, you have a crested gecko right? And to whoever else might as well...

ChuUtena Mar 13, 2004 02:02 PM

I have a question for you (because I think the crested bug has gotten me) What kind of set up do you have for yours? I'm already working on getting a few new cages for my leos because well they are growing pretty darn quick! But since I think I also want to pick up a crested at this month's reptile show here in Ohio, I was curious on how your set up looks. I know they only need 70-85 degrees so I would be putting in a small watt lamp in the cage for lighting and to keep the heat constant, but I would be afraid that if I go with the cages I'm thinking about, they have the incandesent (sp?) fixture INSIDE the cage...woulded the little cresties crawl on it and get burnted?? I dunno, just wondering. Please help me! Anyone else can jump in if they have crested too. Thanks!

I'm in the same position, I'm just about to take the plunge into crested's and have my first male crested coming in on Tuesday. He's a beautiful orange fire/flame crested. I'm going to house him in a spare 10 gallon until my arboreal cages (from herpcages.com) arrive. He's just about 6 months old. My room temp is pretty much 80-82 during the hottest part of the day so I don't think I'll use a lamp.

I keep all my cresteds(except for babies) in screen cages. I keep babies in critter keepers. i don't use any supplemental light or heat. Room temp is fine. My room temp varies from 65-75 in the winter and 75-80ish in the summer. Putting a light in the cage is asking for trouble. I would consider no heat source unless your room temp is constantly in the mid 60's.
good luck

Hey Bill, what type of screen cage are you using? I'm looking at the reptariums right now, but since you use screen cages I thought I'd just ask you. Thanks!

I ordered all mine from chameleon chondo, they post in the classifieds. I custom ordered 24 x 16 x 16 cages. They are perfect for a group of 1.2.

well i haven't had a chance to read through the other posts in responce to you, probably won't until tomorrow, very rough day at work and i'm planning on going to bed soon.

I have a pic of Zeek and his setup, although i've changed it since then, actually i've got him in another tank so ican clean out his tomorrow and redo it a bit. I need the door on the side for better access so i'm turning the tank. It'll give him more height for the time being while i work on a hole new unit for him and the other two i have.

Hope the pic helps

What is the black thing next to his tank? That's a good looking set up!! I just can't decide whether to go with a tank or a screen cage. I've good stuff about both. Thanks for the picture though! What type of set up are you planning on making them? Are your girls in a seperate house? Sorry for all the questions, but I have to have everything set up just right before I go and buy one at the end of the month (and I'm sure I'll pick up a leo while I am there as well, lol!) Thanks!

The black thing is a humidifier i bought at Petsmart to keep the humidity up, thats also the thing he is sitting on. The tube has holes and provides moist air all the time. Currently after getting Zeus, i'm not so sure Zeek is male. He or she looks ALOT like the female (Ziggy) i got along with Zeus. I plan on turning one of my cabnets into a home for the three of them. It will be 36" high X 30" wide X 16" deep. I'm hoping thats good enough for the three of them, BUT and this is a big but...Ziggy is looking fat...fat as in gravid. If this is the case (she has a lay box and i'm doing the waiting game, what i might do is put the two girls together and keep Zeus separate, splitting the unit half way up so they will have around 32" of height....its a tall unit LOL.

I'm excited about getting this thing done and posting pics.
