Our two RES have the standardly shy personalities. They always jump off their basking area or hide when we enter the room (unless they detect food, in which case they come out of hiding to beg).

Well, we went on vacation for a week. My mother in law fed them for us while we were gone. When we got home, we went to say hi to the turtles. They didn't hide at all. Lazurus (the smaller one) came right to the front of the tank and stuck his head out at us. Lil' Dude climbed up onto his platform and stuck his head out, too. I guess they missed us

That was our one and only greeting. They're back to hiding again

Cool story, your mother in-law may have abused them!!! Heh j/k... I noticed if your turtles see you walking by everyday (like my turtles are inside near the kitchen in front of a window) and they see my family all the time.. they are hardly ever afraid unless something strange comes from the other side of the window
